First of all, big congratulations to all those children who have recently made their First Holy Communion! They have all worked hard to prepare for this big day, and from now on, they will be able to receive the bread and wine transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ.

In June we celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi.  Do you know what Corpus Christi means?  They are Latin words.  ‘Corpus’ means ‘body’, and ‘Christi’ means ‘of Christ’.

Each time we celebrate Mass we remember when Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his friends.  At this special meal, Jesus took bread and giving thanks, he broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying, “Take this all of you, and eat it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.”

Then he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take this all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.  Do this in memory of me.”

Each time we share Holy Communion we are doing what Jesus did with his friends and we remember what he said to his friends.
